Please tell me I'm not crazy!
I lost nothing my first 2 weeks post-op... then the scale finally moved - 3lbs. Please dont compare yourself to others - that will only lead you to disappointment and feeling like a failure. 40lbs in a month isnt a *realistic* expectation - while it does happen, its not realistic. The 'average' weight loss is much lower than 40lbs... OH also has a weight loss estimator chart you can look at - it bases the average off your excess weight - I think it does 10% a month for the first 6 of your excess? Something like that. Also keep in mind we all have different surgeries - there is proximal RNY, medial RNY and distal RNY... depending on how much was bypassed it will change the rate at which you lose. The amounts you can lose is the same with all the surgeries... but the speed changes (typically, there are always exceptions).
First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)
1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)
Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011
BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014
Scar revision on arms - 3/2015
HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016
Thigh Lift 10/2020
Thigh Lift revision 10/2021

It's a BOY!
Hi Kim -
It's so normal to feel this way. I dropped about 14 lbs in the first week to 10 days then NADA, Nothing! I thought OMGoodness, I'm the person it won't work for ... but that's not the case. You'll lose it, I promise. Jennifer is so very right ... 40 lbs is not unheard of, but rare. If you can't find the weight loss estimator that Jennifer referred to you might try www.thinnerself.com. It was created by a fellow RNY patient. The data is demographically keyed so that when you enter your own age, height, weight at surgery, surgery date, etc... it searches for people that match your demographics and length of time out from surgery and then does a calculation that let's you know how you are doing at the point in time. Remember that this changes and varies from day to day and week to week. The reason that I like this site was that it helped me to realize that I'm doing okay, that while I may not be losing as much as "Suzy Q", I'm doing well for someone who is my age, sex, height, start weight and date and current weight and date ...
I hope that this helps some.
Hang in there kiddo ... It's going to be just fine.
